Protecting Your Rights Personalized and Knowledgeable Legal Representation

Let's discuss three different types of patents

Patents provide very important legal protections to companies and individuals who make novel, non-obvious ideas come to life. But there isn't just one type of patent that covers every potential idea that could ever be conceived. There are numerous different types of patents, and today we want to take a look at them.

The first is a utility patent. This is the most common type of patent, as it covers processing inventions, compositions of matter, machinations and machinery. A utility patent could be used for a new invention or for an existing item, process or composition.

Design patents are another type, and these cover the overall "look" of an item or product. The "structural ornamentation" of an object can be patented in this regard, meaning the shape, design and other details that comprise the look of the object or item can be patented.

The third type of patent is a plant patent. As the name suggests, this type of patent is meant to protect those who grow or cultivate new and distinctive plants.

Each patent has its own process for being approved, and no matter how you try to patent your product or process, there will always be legal hurdles that you have to clear.

This is why it is imperative for businesses and inventors to consult with an experienced attorney as soon as possible if they are looking to protect their invention or product. There is simply too much at stake to risk seeking patent protection without legal aid.
